Dr.
Powell's Bio
Dr. Powells training includes 5 years at UC Davis where
he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Science.
He then received his Physical Sciences Teaching Credential
at San Jose State University and taught High School Chemistry
at Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley for 5 years. He
began Medical School training at Western University of Health
Sciences, an Osteopathic Medical School in Pomona, CA.
After 4 years of training in medicine, surgery, and manipulation,
Dr. Powell passed his Medical Board Examinations and began
a 3 year Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Providence
St. Vincent Medical Center, Portland, OR.
After graduation, he passed the two day National Internal
Medicine Board Examination, the California Oral Examination
and was accepted into the Stanford University Division of
Rheumatology for a 2 year Fellowship program. While at Stanford,
he assisted with a variety of research trials and was nominated
for the National Rheumatology Fellow of the Year Award before
graduating in August 1997.
Dr. Powell practiced rheumatology in Grass Valley from 1997
- 2003 before opening this Sacramento office.
Dr. Powells research projects have been recognized by
the American College of Internal Medicine and the American
College of Rheumatology. These projects have focused primarily
on Lupus and Lyme disease. Dr. Powells most recent research
has focused on the pathophysiology and treatment of fibromyalgia
and chronic fatigue syndrome.
